One Book July Update: Reasons Not to Use a Bullet Journal

Hello everyone!! It’s time for my week two update on One Book July, and things are really starting to work for me (Check out my other update and setup here!). But, while I was planning this week, I realized something. I am no longer bullet journaling!! I left my bullet journal behind when I moved into my new planner, and I did not even realize it.

And I am not sad about it. I feel like some sort of planning traitor to say that, but it’s true. I do not miss bullet journaling! Most posts these days are about reasons to use a bullet journal, so here are a few reasons not to use a bullet journal!

I am no longer bullet journaling!! I left my bullet journal behind when I moved into my new planner. Here are a few reasons not to use a bullet journal!

Having to Make Your Own Layouts

While many people enjoy this aspect of a bullet journal, I have found that –once I find the right layout– I really enjoy premade planners (looking at you, DIYfish!). I never was good at designing layouts to suit my needs, so I just ended up bouncing from style to style that I found on other people’s Instagrams or blogs or Youtube channels. I felt like everyone always says, “You will develop your own style,” but I never did.

What I have actually found is I am much more creative within a premade layout. So, if you aren’t very good at making your own layouts, maybe you just haven’t found the right planner yet!!

No decision fatigue!!

You may or may not be, but I am completely susceptible to decision fatigue. And there are so many decisions to be made when it comes to bullet journaling!! Do I go minimalist? Do I want color? What should I track? How should I design this page? Should I design this page? How can I plan when I don’t even know my style of bullet journaling?

Those are a lot of decisions for a planner.

Luckily, with a premade layout in a planner, most of those decisions are taken away from you. There are only so many things you can do in a premade weekly layout. It’s great!!

Less Comparison

As you may know, the bullet journal world is a world full of beauty. But, with that beauty comes a lot of comparison. I’m not a fan. Enough said.

But, there isn’t as much of a comparison problem when everyone’s planner essentially looks the same.

Thanks for sticking around for my update and my reasons not to use a bullet journal you guys! I hope you enjoyed the blog post and video? How is One Book July going for you?
